Reflections on recent events July 22, 2024

Jul 26, 2024

Dear Members and Friends of the Solon Democratic Club,

We are at a momentous time in our country.
Many of us are experiencing a jumble of emotions, including: sadness, gratitude, anxiety, concern, and hope.

On Sunday, July 21, President Joe Biden made the patriotic and difficult decision to end his re-election campaign.

He put our country and our democracy first and has passed the torch to the next generation with selflessness and integrity.

President Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Party nominee for President. She would be ready and able to serve and will work to unify our Party and our country and defeat Donald Trump if she becomes the nominee.
She has hit the ground running and has secured pledges of support from a majority of Democratic National Convention delegates, including the Ohio DNC who unanimously pledged to vote for her.
This is a strong show of unity for her presidential campaign and signals she is likely to officially become our party’s nominee next month!

Joe Biden’s legacy will be as one of the most “accomplished, consequential” leaders in our history.

We are grateful to him.

He has:
-Defended our democracy
-Defeated Donald Trump in 2020
-Lowered prescription drug costs for seniors
-Created more than 15 million jobs
-Protected Medicare and Social Security benefits
-Committed to protecting reproductive rights
-Pulled America through the pandemic, revitalized the economy, and much more.
-Signed historic bills on infrastructure legislation, inflation reduction, and civil rights for all into law.
-Signed the first new federal gun safety legislation in decades.
-Secured our nation’s biggest-ever investment in fighting climate change

And now it is up to us to assure that his legacy will carry on.

We must do everything we can to support the Democratic ticket up and down ballot and win the election in November!

We must defeat Donald Trump and the MAGA Project 2025.

We can do this.

We must do it for our children, for our grandchildren, for our country.

We will win it for Joe.
