Solon Home Days 2023

Aug 6, 2023

SDC Participation in Solon Home Days 2023 Was a Success

Our club provided information and literature about the August 8 Vote NO campaign and answered lots of questions about this election.

We were pleased that so many people were interested in learning the facts about the issue.

Many visitors to our tent were there specifically to get the Vote NO on August 8 yard signs! And it was wonderful to see them walking around the park with those signs proudly visible😊

By the end of the weekend, we had distributed over 100 signs!

We also had people stop by our tent who were interested in learning more about our club and some joined on the spot!

We welcomed several “VIP” visitors to our tent including:

  • State Representative Phil Robinson,
  • Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Chair: Dave Brock,
  • Janet Carson: Chair of Geauga County Democratic Party & Chair Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association,
  • Karolyn Isenhart, Executive Director of Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, who stayed with us for several hours and enthusiastically “worked the booth” with us!
  • Judicial candidates: Jennifer McTernan and Joy Kennedy, and candidate for Prosecutor: Mattthew Ahn
  • Judge Rick Bell
  • Solon Mayor Ed Kraus
  • Solon Vice-mayor Nancy Meany
  • City Councilmen Macke Bentley and Michael Kan

The winds were not kind to our trusty SDC tent and on Saturday, a major gust lifted it up and over the neighboring tent to a crushing heap. It served us well through last year’s home days and of course through our many Reproductive Rights Signature Collection events.

Thanks to the Solon Recreation Department staff and crew for letting us borrow one of their tents through the rest of the Home Days!

Despite the loss of our tent, it was a great weekend of spreading the word on the significance of every vote and the importance of the special election on August 8 to our democracy.

We were delighted to be among the various local and area service groups and organizations participating in this information sharing opportunity.

In particular, we appreciated the gracious help of our “neighboring” tents: Bike Solon, Safy , SECPTA, and Great Lakes Spices who were most gracious in helping us through our tent calamity!

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped staff our tent and helped with set up and take down throughout the weekend:

  • Alison Bashian
  • Jennifer Brush
  • Mary Lavigne-Butler
  • Sally Feldman
  • Ava Shaker
  • Gail Flacks
  • Debbie Katz
  • Mark Katz
  • Thera Parks
  • Jan Maurer
  • John Marshall
  • Max Brush
  • Steve Webster
  • Jon Wise
  • Matt Diemer

Thanks to everyone who stopped by and we look forward to next year!

Election night was hard. While many of the national results were uplifting, the outcome in Ohio left us heartbroken and upset.

The Solon Democratic Club believes in working together to organize, promote, and develop the principles and ideals of the Democratic Party.
